If I can do it, you can too….

I was fortunate to spend some time last weekend with my best friend from kindergarten.  We don’t live in the same town and unfortunately we don’t get to see each other as often as we would like.  While we were together she made an interesting comment about how much my eating style has changed.

When we were growing up, she used to come to my house after school.  The play-date always consisted of a snack.  It was usually one of two snacks:  a Ho Ho or a chocolate Pop tart.  They both had to be eaten a certain way (if you are not familiar with them you can google them for a picture).  I also used to eat bologna sandwiches – almost every day until we found out that was the source of migraine headaches I used to get.

Fast forward to my twenties – I would eat cereal for breakfast, a bagel sandwich for lunch and pasta for dinner.  No wonder I had no energy!

Anyway, I now eat a very healthy, clean, (gluten free) diet.  People often ask me how I “stick” to it.  For one thing, it has been a gradual process.  Additionally, I don’t want to go back to feeling tired, bloated and in pain.  Also, I don’t deprive myself – I just find healthier versions of the old “standbys.”  It’s a great feeling to know that I have control over how I feel.
